"If any Conductor and his Orchestra can make music out of Shostakovich's largely unpopular 12th symphony, without bombast, it would be this release on MDG under Roman Kofman and the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn. The percussion section as always with this label and prior volumes in the series is performed and captured in the recording exceptionally." (Amazon.co.uk)

Symphony 2 is the finest interpretation and recording I have heard thus far. While being the composers first experimental "avant garde" symphony it should be appreciated as heard here. In the 2nd movement the National Ukranian Choir is the finest I have ever heard in this symphony...A Noteworthy Release"
