The album was produced by Rick Rubin, who also produced Neil's previous album - the critically acclaimed '12 Songs'. As with that fine album from 2005, in addition to Rubin, Diamond collaborated with Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell and keyboardist Benmont Tench on 'Home Before Dark'. A new addition to the lineup this time is guitarist Matt Sweeney, best known for fronting indie rock outfit Chavez.
The lead single "Pretty Amazing Grace" is a fine showcase of Neil's continuing high standard of songwriting. The album also features a duet with Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks on "Another Day That Time Forgot".
