Micah P. Hinson has known trouble! Raised in Abilene, Texas, he's lived through teenage drug addiction, a stint in jail, bankruptcy and homelessness. Yet in spite of all this personal turmoil, he has managed to write 2 albums of sparse and beautiful country songs - the eerie backdrops blending perfectly with Micah's honest and exposed vocal style.

In '04, Micah P. Hinson and the Gospel of Progress' debut collected a wealth of critical acclaim, with NME describing it as "…an astonishing debut album of country noir…" and landing in Uncut and Rough Trade Shop's Best 100 for '04.

'Micah P. Hinson and The Red Empire Orchestra' is an album that almost wasn't. Suffering chronic back pain, Micah retreated to Texas, contemplating life after music. However, he received an expression of interest from producer John Congleton (Polyphonic Spree, Antony & The Johnsons, Black Mountain), and his fortunes were rekindled. Now, with confidence restored and a life back on track, Micah P. Hinson shows on …And The Red Empire Orchestra that he's ready to take his art back to the masses, courtesy of his trademark inexplicably timeworn burr.

Recorded in a studio converted from an old funeral home, '…and The Red Empire Orchestra' was pulled together with the help of a host of musicians, including member of The Polyphonic Spree, The Paper Chase and The Donnas, as well as veteran of the opera circuit, Nick Phelps.
