When Stomu - best known for his blending of avant-garde & rock music - moved to the U.K. in the early 1970s he signed to the prestigious Island label, recording a series of legendary albums that remain highly regarded among aficionados of progressive jazz-fusion / space rock. Specifically, 'Floating Music' (recorded in 1972 with jazz ensemble Come to the Edge) & 'The Man From the East' (1973, with Red Buddha Theatre) established his reputation as a performer, as well as composer, of impeccable technique and musical intelligence.

Originally released in April 1976, 'Go' remains Stomu's finest achievement though. It was recorded with the help of contributors Steve Winwood, whose affecting vocals are among the best of his career, and ex-Santana drummer Michael Shrieve. Others that appear include the pioneering German electronic musician, Klaus Schulze (Tangerine Dream); Return to Forever's Al di Meola, whose guitar work is exemplary here; the incomparable Pat Thrall; ex-Traffic / future Can bassist, Rosko Gee; and more.

The music that these fine artists fuse together over the 14 pieces conjured here is completely engrossing and indeed, hauntingly beautiful. For a truly etheric mosaic of universally-appealing musical conceptions & performance, look no further than 'Go' - a creation well ahead of its time.
