Giuseppe Tartini's best-known work must be his sonata for violin 'Devil's trill'. Now meet the virtually unknown Tartini on these three CD's.
A violin virtuoso himself Tartini knew very well how to write effectively for his instrument also when it is part of a small ensemble. His 'sonate a tre '- two violins and basso continuo accompaniment - are usually forgotten when looking at Tartini's oeuvre. Unjustly so: they are delightful and typically Baroque pieces, some of them reminiscent to Corelli's music. But do not expect hair raising acrobatics here.
Tartini wrote some 200 violin sonatas. But the opuses 2 and 6 recorded here certainly belong to the less-known part of this output. Especially the opus 2 has been quite neglected by present-day performers. Enrico Casazza performs all six of them in this set. The six sonatas opus 6 are stylistically looking ahead to a new sensibility and the classical sonata.
Pleasantly flowing and energetic performances by violinist Enrico Casazza and members of his La Magnifica Comunitá.
