'Bring Real Freedom' is the long awaited disc of finely-crafted songs from this much respected and greatly sought after Wellington band. Sweepingly beautiful and thought provoking intelligent music, this disc collects all three singles all lovingly restored and remastered, plus 9 tracks from the band's later live set to complete 'The album BRF would have made' if life had played out differently.
Coming out of the post punk movement of the late 70s, Beat Rhythm Fashion created melodic moody intelligent songs of open chords and hypnotic drums. The band was the brainchild of Brothers Dan and Nino Birch who as teenagers found themselves resident in the creatively inspiring environment of Wellington New Zealand in the late 70s and early 80s. There was a strong post punk arts scene there called the terrace scene so named because it revolved around a few houses on the street 'the terrace' up behind the main business district of wellington.
The band released three striking 7 inch singles on the Wellington Bunk Records label, as well as having 2 tracks on the legendary **** aka four stars compilation album (also featuring Lord of the Rings producer Fran Walsh in the Wall Sockets and life in the fridge exists), and 3 live tracks on the Wellington Zone compilation. By the End of 1982 the band were ready to do the next stage of their upward career and decided to make the move to Melbourne Australia, but some how they got lost and phase 2 never happened as it should have for them.
