'Saudade' from New Zealand based Mezzo-Soprano Amanda Cole and pianist Sandra Crawshaw contains 34 tracks (using poems that span several centuries) from a handful of the genres leading exponents.
Saudade is a particularly Portuguese concept and sentiment. The dictionary definition is: "A melancholy feeling caused by: the absence or disappearance of people or things to which one was strongly emotionally attached; the distance from a place or a period in time; or the deprivation of pleasant experiences previously enjoyed."
'Saudade - A Portuguese Songbook', is the debut Ode release from New Zealand based Mezzo-Soprano Amanda Cole and pianist Sandra Crawshaw. The album contains 34 tracks from a handful of the genres leading exponents - Claudio Carneyro, Antonio Fragoso, Ivo Cruz, Augusto Machado, and Jose Viana Da Mota.
The large majority of the songs on this recording, which use poems that span several centuries, indicate that saudade has long been one of the defining features of the Portuguese art song.
