True Lovers is the debut album from New York based act of the same name formed by Dion Palmer, guitarist from the legendary Auckland group, The D4.
Dion picks up the D4's retro blend of Nuggets-era garage guitar attack, Stooges proto-metal and the early British pub rock of Eddie and the Hotrods and turns it all back up to eleven in a steamy blast of saucy, raunchy good times on the True Lovers album. Stand-out tracks include first single "Death Threat", "Cougar" and "Love Potion Number Nine".
The True Lovers swung out our way to debut at the January Big Day Out and true to Dion's reputation for blistering live shows they delivered the goods to the BDO crowd and at regular dirty rock'n'roll haunts the Kings Arms, San Fran Bath House and Cassette 9 during their brief sojourn in town. The D4 carved a great niche, touring the world several times over with the likes of The Hives and selling thousands of records in their time. Dion doesn't deviate from a decent recipe here, he has just added a bit more spice to the brew.
