Some of the greatest names in world music - Khaled, Yasmin Levy, Bassekou Kouyate, Tinariwen, Ojos De Brujo, Staff Benda Bilili, Mahala Rai Banda, Nneka... even Fat Freddy's Drop!

Until his death in March 2010, BBC Radio DJ Charlie Gillett was world's music's number one ambassador. His radio shows and compilations helped launch the careers of musicians the world over. Sadly, this is the very last instalment to the Sound Of The World series, compiled only weeks before his passing.

'Sound Of The World presents: Anywhere On This Road' (originally named as a tribute to Lhasa De Sela) takes us to all the corners of the musical world, with some of the greatest names in world music, such as Khaled, Yasmin Levy, Bassekou Kouyate, Tinariwen and Ojos De Brujo, as well as Staff Benda Bilili from Congo, Mahala Rai Banda from Romania, nu-flamenco vocalist Buika's collaboration with Cuban legend Chucho Valdes, Nigerian singer Nneka, and many more.

"Hard to believe that Charlie Gillett won't be around to put together any more of his annual surveys of the best and quirkiest from around the globe. This 2-CD set - compiled just before the DJ died in March - is even more satisfying than its predecessors."
- The Sunday Times

"Charlie Gillett is a much missed champion of new music and sadly this was his last compilation. It features choice cuts from Khaled, [Bassekou Kouyate &] NGoni Ba, Tinariwen, K'naan, Ceu, Seasick Steve and the great Saban Bajramovic. The closing 'Presentiment' from Ethiopia is as hair-raising as any supernatural apparition. We love ya, Charlie Gillett."
- The Independent (Album Of The Week)

"The late Charlie Gillett made his annual compilation into an institution. This last roundup offers Gillett's instinctive blend of grand groove and insinuating melody."
- The Observer

"Extra poignancy is added by the knowledge that this will be the last world music compilation from the late broadcaster Charlie Gillett. 'Anywhere On This Road shows off his talent-spotting perfectly."
- Financial Times
