Frozen Alice is a four-piece progressive rock group based in Auckland. The band is made up of three former members of well-known Auckland metal six-piece, Remains of a Day (Mark, Ozzy and Ryan) and the fresh blood of bass player Billy. Frozen Alice spent a year touring throughout NZ and Australia before heading into The Green Room studio with renowned NZ rock/metal producer, Zoran Mendonsa (8 foot Sativa, New Way Home, Solstate) to record their debut album, The Torino Scale.
Frozen Alice's style of progressive rock has been described as 'bipolar rock' - thanks largely to Mark Tronson's ability to quickly switch from powerful and aggressive vocals back to a more melodic singing style. This reflects the changing moods within songs and across the whole album… From hard-hitting sprawling epic noise on opening track ('Everyday'), to a hint of Middle Eastern influence ('Ethics of the Tribe'), their music shows off an eclectic range. Each song lyrically has its own voice, while still maintaining the Frozen Alice 'signature'; a solid rhythm section, seamless time signature changes, solid grooves with catchy hooks, yet stays true to a darker sound.
Featuring rock radio single 'Qadesh,' The Torino Scale is an album that will appeal to fans of Tool, Porcupine Tree, Incubus, Mogwai, Pink Floyd, Jakob, Karnivool, and A Perfect Circle.
