This is a collection of bleak and spare songs from Shellac drummer Todd Trainer, who on guitar and vocals delivers a sinister and edgy brand of drone rock. Recalling Crime & the City Solution, Codeine, and even slow rock practitioners Low in some parts, Trainer's voice delivers some spine-chilling tales in a deep baritone rasp over a minimal backdrop dominated by simple but highly effective fuzz guitar that seems ever teetering on the edge of feedback. The lumbering Brick Layer Cake project could not be further from the agile hardcore of Shellac, yet is similarly concerned with a minimalist bare-bones approach to sonic noise shaping and dark subject matter. ~ Skip Jansen, All Music Guide
