Growing up in Washington, D.C., Rob Sonic considered himself a rapper rather than a producer (he started rhyming in junior high), but as part of New York-based Sonic Sum, and on their 2000 release Sanity Annex, he took care of both duties. Thanks to his quick rhymes and interesting production, Sonic was soon approached by musicians like Slug and Mike Ladd, and in 2003 he was signed to Definitive Jux, who issued his solo debut, Telecatessen, a completely self-produced affair, the following year. ~ Marisa Brown, Rovi
