The Band Of Joy are best known as the outfit that gave Robert Plant and John Bonham their leg-up on the stairway to Zeppelin.
Yet while that line-up relied on its live reputation to become a Midlands legend, a revised Band Of Joy finally made it to the studio in the late 1970s, having re-grouped to play benefit gigs with their old singer for the families of a local band involved in a fatal motorway crash.
The gigs didn't happen as planned, but an eponymous album on Polydor was followed by a barely-released second, both of which stand as undiscovered gems.
