The Luxembourgian pianist Marco Kraus performs the Piano Works of Luxembourgian composer Helen Buchholtz. Her finely elaborated piano sonatas and piano character pieces in particular are marked by an experimental style.
Unacademic Luxembourgian
The Luxembourgian pianist Marco Kraus chanced upon Helen Buchholtz's piano oeuvre some years ago and was so impressed by its musical quality that he immediately began to analyze it and to prepare it for performance. Like all Luxembourgian composers of her time, Helen Buchholtz did not ally herself with the avant-garde musical currents of the twentieth century. In her works she nevertheless was able to develop her very own personal musical language. Numerous compositions by her are distinguished by her harmonic and formal delight in experimentation. Her finely elaborated piano sonatas and piano character pieces in particular are marked by a strong personal style. Helen Buchholtz's new, unacademic manner of combining what seem to be historically divergent elements to form an originalunity perhaps lies at the heart's core of her art.
