"Suddenly these non-sonata cello works of Martinu are getting recorded more often. It's high time. The suites and Ariette are all from the year 1930 and are full of beautiful ideas both jazzily perky and seriously somber. The variations are later virtuoso pieces, the Rossini Moses set written for Piatigorsky. Krastev plays them well, in a rather matter-of-fact but lively manner, while the Bendas indulge in some very individual ensemble rubato, less technically showy but musically intense. Their kind of involvement brings out the details - where as we have heard, the devil resides." American Record Guide
