Bach composed this Lutheran Missa in 1733. It later became part of his only missa tota, the Mass in B minor.

"A refreshing antidote to the quirky tempos and minimalist approach of some more recent offerings. Solo voices and instrumentalists are excellent. Choruses are more diffuse, with 'Cum sancto spiritu' rather ponderous." (BBC Music)

"admirable performance and excellent recording … all Bach-lovers must know Harnoncourt's style by now; the buoyant flow of the opening Kyrie, for example, the springy rhythms and lightness of touch." (Gramophone)
