A significant Soviet modernist composer in the period just before and after the October Revolution. His music was ideologically suppressed at the end of the 1920s in the Soviet Union and he was deliberately treated, till his death, as a 'non-person' by the Soviet Government.
"Fifty-six years after his death, Roslavets remains little known outside his reputation as a key player in Russian modernism… The Fontenay Trio bring the poise and incisiveness that distinguish their forays into the classical repertoire, and make a strong case… for this music's revival." Gramophone
"From the brooding Scriabinesque chromaticism of the Second to the more percussive Prokofiev-inspired Fourth, Roslavets's Trios provide a fascinating chronicle of the turbulent musical climate during the early years of the Soviet Union." (BBC Music)
