Recorded over a period of some eighteen months, between June 1958 and September 1959, Strictly Instrumental turned out to be the last album Bill Haley & His Comets recorded for the Decca label before their switch to Warner Brothers at the start of the new decade. Whilst they were largely seen as being the originators of rock & roll, events and others had passed them by during the last five or so years. If this was seen as something of a contractual obligation album then someone forgot to tell the buying public, for two singles from the album made the charts.
