Featuring material recorded in 1951 and originally issued as a Prestige 10" in 1956, Dig is a very good representation of early Miles Davis at his best, forging ahead with his own cool bop style. The album was later reissued under the title Diggin' in coordination with the Cookin',' Steamin', Workin' series although it has little to do with that later period.
Davis is found here in a killer sextet configuration with none other than Sonny Rollins on tenor saxophone, a young Jackie McLean on alto saxophone (his debut recording), Walter Bishop Jr. on piano, Tommy Potter on bass and Art Blakey on drums. Includes the classic "Dig" and a great reading of "It's Only A Paper Moon" as well as the tracks "Denial," "Bluing" and "Out Of The Blue."
