The second of Gerard Hoffnung's famed musical festivals, the Interplanetary Music Festival was held on 21 and 22 November 1958 at the Royal Festival Hall. Just like its predecessor of 1956, the festival featured an assortment of traditional classical music pieces with omissions and extras as necessary, alongside humorous works specially commissioned from well known composers of the day. The well known composer contributing to The Interplanetary Music Festival is Joseph Horovitz (who has actually requested the reissue of this particular album), who assisted in the composition of Metamorphosis on a Bed-Time Theme with Alistair Sampson.
