AVID Jazz continues with its Four Classic album series with a re-mastered 2CD release by Gerald Wiggins, complete with original artwork and liner notes.

How's this for a musical CV from pianist, organist, bassist, teacher, composer and conductor Gerald Wiggins? At sixteen he was playing with no less a figure than the legendary Louis Armstrong! Then he moved on to join the Benny Carter band, left for a stint in the U.S. army before re-joining the band after his service was complete. In 1950 he set off on tour with Chico Hamilton supporting Lena Horne for two years in the US and Europe. He formed his own trio to play with some great vocalists such as Frances Faye, Ernestine Anderson, Dinah Washington, and Ella Mae Morse and also joined the bands of Jerry Fielding and Harry James. And as if that wasn't enough he was also musical coach to Hollywood legends such as Marilyn Monroe with whom he worked on the movies, Some Like It Hot and Let's Make Love, the latter of which he appeared in and wrote two songs! For our four releases we find Wiggins in trio mode joined by the likes of Joe Comfort, Bill Douglas, Eugene Wright and Jackie Mills.
