His financial director witnesses Maxwell's financial shenanigans during his fierce rivalry with fellow mogul Rupert Murdoch as he optimistically pursues his glamorous secretary Andrea Martin and alienates his wife. By the end the previously omnipotent Maxwell, who was able to have bankers, suppliers and competitors dancing to his tune, was powerless, held in contempt by his bankers and employees - his business in tatters, he ultimately pays the price for living it large.
