Hamburg Demonstrations is the brand new album from Peter Doherty, frontman of iconic bands The Libertines and Babyshambles. It features Hell To Pay At The Gates Of Heaven, which was written after the Paris attacks last November, and laments the fact that young people are now picking up guns instead of guitars. The album also features a new recording of the Amy Winehouse tribute track Flags Of The Old Regime (now called Flags From The Old Regime), and new tracks Kolly Kibber, which was inspired by the newspaper man who meets a sticky end at the beginning of Brighton Rock, and A Spy In The House Of Love, a titled borrowed from the Anas Nin novel.
Hamburg Demonstrations was produced, recorded, and mixed by Johann Scheerer at Clouds Hill Recordings in Hamburg, Germany. Peter had always wanted to record in Hamburg, as it's where the Beatles learned their trade. He was referred to Clouds Hills Recordings and turned up on their doorstep unannounced the very next day. He fell in love with the studio and based himself there for the next six months. The album was recorded using an 8 Track 2 Studer A820 tape machine, and mixed onto a 1/4 Telefunken master machine.
