At the age of 25 Tupac Shakur was not only one of the most notorious and controversial icons of hip hop; he was also dead. These two documentaries tell his brief and tragic story.
'Before I Wake' (2002) takes a look at the last 12 months of Tupac's life and the events that led to his death, told through the eyes of his bodyguard, Frank Alexander. Includes interviews with rappers Eric 'Eazy-E' Wright and Russell Simmons.
'Tupac Versus' (1995) was filmed during Tupac's time at a correctional centre, a year before he was killed. It reveals a new version of the man who exploded onto the hip hop scene in the early 90's and shows how he wanted to change the world. Features rare footage and stills of his life and career plus commentary from biographer Michael Eric Dyson, artist Rah Pacasso, ex manager Leila Sternberg and instructor Arvand Elihu.
