Over the past sixty years, several families of musicians have written the history of harmonia mundi. 1988-2018: after the success of Atys and the St Matthew Passion, the Arles years saw those families branching out and opening up to new generations with a consistency clearly visible in the artistic policy - the passion for excellence, and a certain sincerity of interpretation too, as may be seen notably in Haydn's Seasons. This set also gives examples of musical chemistry, encounters, new paths for exploration and even the odd amusing deviation from the norm...A unique and exciting story!
"[Faust's] playing throughout is remarkable not only for the expected attributes of fidelity and accuracy but for the tough, wild and impassioned qualities she restores to a piece which easily falls prone to white-dress, sugar-and-spice performances" Gramophone on the Isabelle Faust Mendelssohn
"The thrilling sound of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and Berlin's crack RIAS Chamber Choir make for a life-enhancing experience. The three soloists are superb; the whole set makes you wonder anew at the 67-year-old composer's creativity and imagination." Gramophone on the Renee Jacobs Haydn
"few will have heard such an affecting performance as Scholl achieves here.
The lyrical prayer of human yearning for faith contained in the 'Fac ut ardeat' movement is tenderly sung and here, as throughout the programme, sympathetically supported by Ensemble 415 under Chiara Banchini's experienced direction." Gramophone on the Andreas Scholl Vivaldi
