Where does Marty Robbins sit in the Country music hall of legends, we were wondering? A look at the covers on our release suggests somewhere between Johnny Cash and Jim Reeves with a bit of Andy Williams thrown in for good measure. A sure fire hit combination we at AVID say. Marty started his recording life slightly to the "poppier" side of the railroad (after all he did record "A White Sport Coat and a Pink Carnation" in 1957, which went on to sell a million copies and reach Gold Record status), two years before hitting pay-dirt with his two classic albums, both featured here, "Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs" and the intriguingly titled follow up "More Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs". These are classic country albums by any standards and contain the Grammy award winning song El Paso, as well as the classic Big Iron. A mention of our other two featured titles, which while perhaps not being strictly full on country albums, however do highlight what a great voice Marty Robbins had whether he was singing county or pop or standards.
