Weird Days (LP)

Vincent H.L's been making music in various Auckland bands (Whipping Cats, Hang Loose, Magic Factory) for a good while now but 'Weird Days' is his debut solo record. Listening to it is like taking an equilibrium-shifting drive down a highway of uncertainty with only tramadol-ingesting coyotes to call for directions.

In other words, it's a mighty fine psych-country addition to his canon of works.

On the album's sound, Vincent says: "I like country music and doom metal, so the initial idea was to try and make the sensibilities from both genres work together. In places it's got a tired woozy feeling, sort of like a golden hangover day. And in other places it gets a little bit spaghetti western..."

Indeed.
