Brian Eno and Karl Hyde's working relationship has been built upon the vibrancy and enthusiasm of writing music and recording together. So when it was suggested to the duo that they do interviews for their first album 'Someday World' they politely declined and instead suggested inviting journalists to Brian's studio to view and even at times participate in the creative process. All of the material included on High Life was composed and recorded during these improvised sessions.
The experiment drew inspiration from the repetitive minimalism of composers like Steve Reich and Phillip Glass, and from the polyrhythmic music of Fela Kuti and funk, as well as continuing the work that Eno and Hyde have done separately.
