Suitable for General AudiencesThis is the first recording of the new concert series "Ouverture Spirituelle" from the Salzburger Festspiele 2012 focusing on religious themes and musical works.
Two rarely heard pieces that Mozart wrote when he was twenty years old - the Litaniae de venerabili altari sacramento K. 243 and the Missa longa in C major K. 262 - were presented on this occasion at Salzburg Cathedral, a jewel of Baroque architecture.
The program is presented by a splendid cast consisting of Mozart specialist Jeremy Ovenden, mezzo-soprano Elisabeth Von Magnus, soprano Sylvia Schwartz and baritone Florian Boesch accompanied by the highly acclaimed and Grammy Award winning Arnold Schoenberg Chor, and the Concentus Musicus Wien ensemble, winner of the Cannes Classical Award.
Conducted by the Austrian Honorary Guest Conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam and Grammy Award winner Nikolaus Harnoncourt.
