Harold Lloyd Jenkins better known as Conway Twitty can probably thank his Welsh heritage for his incredible vocal talent. Named by his father after the great silent film star he quickly changed it after seeing the towns Conway and Twitty on a road map while on tour.
Probably more Rockabilly than Rock n Roll he came from a country background and his ambition always seemed to be headed towards a pure country sound, which of course he achieved with spectacular success in the seventies and eighties. Meanwhile back in the fifties he made his name on the Rock n Roll and Rockabilly circuit always with a giant nod to the pop charts for good measure.
