A ground-breaking recording of Brahms' Chamber Works for the Clarinet and Piano, this is the new disc from University of Auckland Lecturer, Marie Ross. Performed with original instruments from the period in the rarely-heard historically informed Romantic style, this recording shines a new light on standard repertoire. As the Romantics of over 100 years ago prized expressivity and passion over the more cold and impersonal virtuosity heard too often in today's classical music, this disc returns to those wild-hearted roots.
After 10 years of researching the performing style, instruments, and the works themselves, Marie can be heard with European stars, Petra Somlai (piano) and Claire-Lise Démettre (cello). Having an international performing career that has taken her around the globe as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player, Marie has recently decided to call New Zealand her home. She teaches clarinet, music theory, musicology, and chamber music at The University of Auckland, while regularly traveling back to Europe to perform with the French orchestra, Ensemble Matheus, where she is a member.
