In the foreword to his "L'Apothéose de Lully" the great French Baroque composer François Couperin wrote: "This Trio, just like the L ́Apothéose de Corelli, and in fact all my trios, may be executed on two harpsichords, as well as on any other instruments. I play them with my family and my students, with a very happy success".
This preface prompted Italian harpsichordist Marco Gaggini and Gian Luca Rovelli to record all the Couperin trios for two harpsichords: L'Apothéose de Lulli and Corelli, as well as Les Nations. The result sounds wonderfully idiomatic, rich and in typically French style.
The harpsichords used are copies of a Hemsch 1736 (by Augusto Bonza) and a Taskin 1768 (by Tony Chinnery).
