Broadcoaster (10")

Squid are back with Broadcaster, the AA-side companion to the chugging post-punk masterclass Sludge - a limited vinyl pressing on Warp, featuring an extended version of Broadcaster. Squid is the brainchild of Louis Borlase (guitars and vocals), Ollie Judge (lead vocals and drums), Arthur Leadbetter (keyboards, percussion and strings), Laurie Nankivell (bass and brass) and Anton Pearson (guitars and vocals).

The London band cemented their status in 2019 as a vital new voice in the British musical underground, and at the end of the year they inked a deal with Warp. They've got the knack for lively, driving post-punk, but at times the group also break into an ersatz take on jazz which owes a clear debt to The Lounge Lizards. It's angsty yet danceable, the sort of thing that could have graced an early !!! LP.

Squid are in a constant, energetic state of evolution which is reflected in the intense and infectious spectrum of sound contained in their propulsive songs. This wild and restless creativity points the way forward for a band with no limits on what they might do next. Keep an ear out for more releases due later this year.
