Even a listener who finds Hilton a bit unyielding in some of Copland's gentler lyric phrases is likely to prefer her account to the very dry, pallid interpretation of Gary Gray on Unicorn-Kanchana. Hilton wields a heavier tone and a bigger sound, but both are generally well controlled and heard to particular advantage in the work's jazzier episodes.
