This new recording contains the transcriptions for guitar that guitarist Jan Depreter made of the second Notenbüchlein für Anna-Magdalena Bach (1725). Depreter about this project: "While this selection of little musical gemstones is probably best known for its educational purposes in the keyboard world, in my view this music is so much more. It is an intensely personal and charming compendium of the favourite music played on a daily basis at the Bach household, from its early awakening to its final rest".
In 1721 Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), then already a widower with 4 children, married the 20-year old Anna Magdalena Wülcken, daughter of a court trumpeter. She was a talented soprano, who assisted Bach in many ways, for instance in copying music for him. Bach compiled the Notenbüchlein for her in order to instruct and entertain her and the whole family.
Jan Depreter, one of the most sought-after guitarists of today, is winner of several international guitar competitions. He is also artistic director of the prestigious Antwerpen Guitar Festival.
