'My dear Lamperi, by now you will already have heard of the successful reception won by my opera I Capuleti ed i Montecchi, staged on 11th of this [month]. To give you an idea of the pleasure it gave, I can tell you that from the first to the fourth performance, which was on Sunday, enthusiasm reached, or perhaps surpassed, the levels of Il Pirata and La Straniera in Milan. […] With her beautiful, extensive voice, Grisi, whose finest chords I struck, delights and still [sic] as an actress. Carradori in the part of Giulietta is sublime with her ingenuous appearance and spontaneous song and action. The tenor Bonfigli outdid himself and public expectation, for he became hateful to everyone and no one would look him in the eye.'
Thus, on 16 March 1830 Vincenzo Bellini wrote to his friend Alessandro Lamperi.
