Of these sinfonie con titoli (symphonies with a title), the best known is Boccherini's 'Casa del Diavolo' (House of the Devil), which was inspired by Glück's Don Juan and Orphée. All the other works are relatively unknown, and some have never been recorded before. Fabio Biondi thus furthers his musicological investigation by resuscitating composers such as Carlo Monza and Giuseppe Demachi and reinstating them alongside their better-known contemporaries Sammartini, Boccherini and Vivaldi
"None of this is great music, in truth, but this is where Europa Galante come to the rescue, their combination of rigorous ensemble and interpretational panache bringing it to life." Gramophone
