[ Sony Classical / 11 CD Box Set ]
Release Date: Friday 13 October 2023
Sony Classical is excited to release the full cycle of Bruckner's symphonies recorded by the Vienna Philharmonic under Christian Thielemann on CD. The box set, featuring the composer's nine numbered symphonies, his 'Study Symphony' and his 'Nullified' symphony, will incorporate 11 CDs and a 172-page booklet. This release constitutes the first complete recording of the Austrian composer's symphonies from the orchestra under a single conductor. Christian Thielemann enjoys a strong rapport with the Vienna Philharmonic and has established himself as one of his generation's most esteemed interpreter of the Romantic Austro-German repertoire.
"A performance that is both of a piece with itself and at peace with one of the most glorious of all Bruckner's musical bequests." - Gramophone Magazine (Symphony No.4)
"For Thielemann the Ninth is, it seems, less a universal theological meditation on last things and more a highly personal quest for spiritual quietude. His interpretation has intimacies hard to find in other versions, and a vulnerability movingly communicated in the Vienna Philharmonic's superempathetic playing." BBC Music (Symphony No.9)
