American-born pianist Andrew von Oeyen has an ambitious new album that combines works for solo keyboard with piano transcriptions from orchestral, opera and choral repetoire. The album possess a unique duality between the 'angelic' works of Bach, Debussy, Fauré and Messiaen, and 'demonic' works of Liszt, Saint-Saëns and Edward MacDowell.
As he leads the listener on a journey into the darkest corners of human emotion, but also towards rapture and catharsis," Andrew proves an assured and inspiring guide. In the words of the Chicago Tribune, "He leaves you convinced that he can do absolutely anything he likes with a keyboard.
