Casting rich spells of self-expression, finding power in softness and inviting listeners deeper into her ethereal world, Tāmaki Makaurau based indie folk artist Greta O'Leary is set to turn heads across Aotearoa with her astonishing debut album River Dark.

Greta writes with a clarity of vision, making introspective observations that seamlessly interlock with her enthralling and tender songcraft.

Through soaring instrumentation, astute and occasionally absurd lyrics of self-reflection and her poignant voice, River Dark is a remarkable collection of confession, truth and poetry.

The record was created alongside producer Jol Mulholland (all the Finns) at The Lab, with Greta's hypnotic songwriting and unmistakable vocals accentuated through the skilful musicianship of Anita Clark (Motte, Don McGlashan), Cass Basil (The Veils, Tiny Ruins), Alastair Deverick (Boycrush)and Callum Passells (LCR, Aldous Harding).

A peculiar ride through Greta's signature tongue-in-cheek songwriting and nostalgic, vivid lyricism, River Dark is also an enthralling display of the artist seamlessly dipping her toes into a new sound.

"My first record, a collection of personal, ridiculous and truth telling songs. It took a long time to get here. I was a child shy and unclear, completely confused, absolutely not onboard with future, with goals or activity. I was in the field below the house, I was at the pond with the dog, I played make believe longer than most. I was taught to be quiet."
