Daniel Barenboim served as the Chief Conductor of the Orchestre de Paris from 1975 to 1989, following Charles Munch, Herbert von Karajan and Georg Solti, starting the role at the age of 33. His tenure was marked by a strong commitment to both the classical repertoire and contemporary music by composers such as Boulez, Dutilleux, and Henze. Barenboim's collaboration with the orchestra resulted in numerous recordings, including a significant body of French repertoire, many of them originally issued on EMI Classics and Erato. This 15-CD box set features recordings from 1973-1990.

Daniel Barenboim is not only one of the greatest pianists alive, but has also established himself as a leading conductor since his debut with the Philharmonia Orchestra back in 1967. He has held prominent positions with some of the world's most illustrious ensembles, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Berlin, the Orchestre de Paris, and the Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala di Milano, while also touring extensively with the Wiener Philharmoniker and his own West-Eastern Divan Orchestra.
