"On this showing Parry's stirring and deeply humane De profundis unquestionably merits a new lease of life, as does the anthem God is our hope and strength. A setting of Psalm 46 and scored for double choir, baritone, organ and orchestra, this was first heard in St Paul's Cathedral, London, on April 24, 1913, and crams plenty of nobly compassionate invention and contrapuntal flair into its mere 13-minute duration."
