Eugene Zádor's more intimate musical voice comes to the forefront in this volume, revealing a composer at his most personal and expressive. The Ode to Peace, written for the 17th anniversary of the United Nations, gained poignant resonance when it was premiered during the Cuban missile crisis.
The beauties of nature offer little solace for lost love in the nostalgic song cycle From the Lonely Wayfarer, while the Four Selected Songs trace a path where grief and affection remain constant companions. Zádor's flair for characterisation and rhythmic vitality shines in both the Suite for Woodwind Quintet and the Brass Quintet, works that highlight his craftsmanship and spirited inventiveness.
