Boulanger / Fauré: Clair-Obscur

Clair-obscur applied to the piano repertoire immediately evokes the white and black keys of the instrument. The piano music by Lili Boulanger and Gabriel Fauré on Tal Walker's album explores subtle harmonic gradations and the full spectrum of emotional expression. Walker mirrors Boulanger's short pieces and Theme and Variations with those of Fauré, placing the luminous and the dark in constant dialogue: one could not exist without the other.
