Rossini: Il vero omaggio

Rossini's Il vero omaggio - "The True Homage" - is a celebratory cantata written for a gala concert at the Congress of Verona in 1822. Drawing on his earlier work La riconoscenza, Rossini reused most of the original score but added new music, reshaped sections for different voice types, and composed an entirely fresh finale.

The cantata follows a pastoral couple on their wedding day - a confident shepherd and his shy bride - and highlights Rossini's effortless ability to craft a "new" work from familiar material, infusing it with expressive warmth, charm and unmistakable personal style.
