Heinrich Marschner was a key figure in German Romantic Opera, the principal bridge between the works of Weber and Wagner. Marschner and Weber became firm friends, and it was Weber who promoted the historical 'rescue opera' Heinrich IV und D'Aubigné in Dresden in 1820. Featuring rarities such as ballet fragments, the richly Romantic opening to a proposed piano concerto, an early symphony and rustic sounds both spectacular and serene from the incidental music to the play Waldmüllers Margret, this unique collection and final volume in the series overflows with unexpected delights and surprises.
