Ian Page and The Mozarists bring us a new album of arias by the celebrated composer Christoph Willibald Gluck including works from operas such as Il trionfo di Clelia, Wq31, Orfeo ed Euridice, Wq30, and Il Parnaso confuso, Wq33. The soloist is the Swedish mezzo-soprano Ann Hallenberg, with Ian Page once again conducting his award-winning period-instrument ensemble.
"Hallenberg centres her selection around works Gluck composed for the great castrato Giovanni Manzuoli, beginning with 'Resta o cara' from Il trionfo di Clelia...Hallenberg manages the vocal fireworks of this splendidly assertive music with aplomb, finishing with an impressive cadenza." BBC Music
"As well as virtuosity, Hallenberg brings something vital to everything in this assortment, be it an insightful dramatic detail, a point of stylistic nous or a sheer sense of presence." Gramophone Award WINNER 2026 - Voice & Ensemble
"Here is an excellent album for demonstrating the much wider range of jewels Gluck can offer...Hallenberg's vocal dexterity brings great pleasure, as does Gluck's considerable skill in directly expressing in music the characters' emotional crises." The Times
