Out of all the original hip-hop crews Run-D.M.C. can probably count themselves most fortunate. While most of their contemporaries had one chance at success and few made it past the first few hurdles the rocking Runsters have had at least three separate bites at the showbiz apple. No-ones denying that they started off with a bunch of talent and a whole heap of individuality , two crucial factors that distinguished them from the rabble of a rapidly emerging genre. What's more while all of their peers were getting clothing labelled up to ridiculous extents these three kept it clean and simple with a profitable Adidas endorsement and the kind of hats you were more likely to see atop an orthodox Jew - the result was consumer identifiablity and the creation of a brand.

After their initial stream of hits dried up they managed the almost impossible with the rap resurrection that was 'Down With the Kings' utilising the new school of production talent like Pete Rock to drag the DMC sound into the 90's. Then when that revive had shot its wad and the world thought that Run-D.M.C. had been finally consigned to the 'where are they now file' up pops virtual unknown Jason Nevins with a remix of 'It's Like That' and suddenly it's worldwide #1s and they're back on the block (all be it by remix proxy). Hence we have the re-packaged 'Greatest Hits' featuring aforementioned chart smash and its follow up, the carbon copy Nevins remix, 'It's Tricky'. Essentially aside from those two additions it is the same greatest hits that Profile put out a few years ago so Nevins fans and new Run converts will find nearly all their hearts desire here. Me? I'm just wondering how they're going to do it a fourth time!
