for the first time in the full, original version
Paul McCreesh performs Solomon on Archiv Produktion with countertenor Andreas Scholl in the title role, presenting this work for the first time in the full, original version. The 1998 Promenade Concert in connection with which this recording was made was acclaimed by the Times: "McCreesh has the exact measure of Solomon's unique musical chemistry. The balance of instrumental and vocal textures kept excitement poised as if in anticipation. Andreas Scholl's countertenor was, inevitably, the wisdom and the glory of this Solomon. Exuberant yet minutely controlled, the voice incarnated every aspect of the role."
