Hebden's counterpoint flows so irresistibly - Gramophone
'Hebden's counterpoint flows so irresistibly that it seems extraordinary he should have been forgotten for so long… the playing… well conveys Hebden's qualities.'
- Gramophone
Cantilena's meticulously researched performance of these works remains the only one in existence, making this reissue all the more valuable.
Hebden's Concertos for Strings represent the best of the fine, yet comparatively unknown, music written in England in the mid-eighteenth century.
Hebden's tuneful and graceful concertos (published 1749) are written in the baroque style, though his use of keys and harmony is surprisingly unconventional.
